Typically, lack of peace is a result of inner turmoil regarding people or events. By identifying what is bothering you and planning a manner for dealing with it you can achieve some peace of mind.
Some things - such as worrying about things that could or might happen are harder to deal with because they are habits we have, and habits are hard to break. Positive habits, however, can be initiated when we see ourselves going into old, negative patterns of behavior.
Through consistent self-examination we can overcome those things that nag and eat away at our happiness and achieve some sense of peace.

Meditate. It allows your mind to stop racing and going over the same things repeatedly. Just sit someplace comfortable close your eyes and breathe. Start at the top of your body and use your breathing to relax each body part all the way don to your toes. Your mid will still keep going over things but just let t and don't try to force it to stop. As you relax it will slow down. If you do this every day for a week or 2 you'll start to see it gets easier to get your mind to stop repeating the things that drive you crazy. It takes some time but try it. It's free, easy and it works!

One thing is for sure, you WILL yourself find the answer to this question, because without peace of mind you are not able to sit still until you have found a place in your mind to lay whatever it is bothering you to rest.

You are your master of mind. Mind is nothing but a bunch of thoughts. Kill all the negative thoughts. Follow the thoughts and demolish them. The thoughtless state is peace of Mind. Meditation is one the processes. The Hindu Yoga Sastras (Books of knowledge) give a lot of paths for this process.

In order to have peace of mind, we should not feel hurt due to any failure of fulfilling any of our desires.
We feel hurt on any failure because we think we did not deserve to fail..... because of our ego, we never think we deserve to fail.
One way, which has been working quite well with me, is to remind myself at all key moments as to how 'small' and 'minuscule' we really are in the context of the vast expanse of the universe and the unending stretch of time, of which we are but a speck of a petty part!! This thought brings ego down to ground level and gives strength to accept failure to fulfill a desire, without much hurt.

The simplest answer, breathe.
I recommend books by both John kabat Zinn and Thich Nath Hanh to teach you how to do this in an effective and meditative manor.
Also, you might try reading the NT and considering the love, grace, and mercy that Christ has shown you. Just a thought.

ANXIETIES: TO BE CAST NOT CARRIED
(1 Peter 5:1-11)
Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, as your fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker also of the glory that is to be revealed, shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness; nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you. Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world. And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you. To Him be dominion forever and ever. Amen.
