6 weeks ago when my baby was 6 weeks old we traveled by car about half that distance for a wedding. It really wasn't too bad, especially because babies that young sleep so much and the car also helps them sleep. Just plan stops along your route at intervals that will coordinate with feeding times. Give yourself plenty of extra time in your planning.

When my son was 6 weeks old, we traveled from North Carolina to Oklahoma for a baby shower/party for us and the baby. He did wonderfully on the way there, sleeping most of the time, however, they way home was a disaster. He cried the whole time we were in the car. My mom suggested that maybe he was getting achy from being in one position for too long. He is now 8 months old, and still throws a fit every time we get in the car, unless someone sits in the back with him. I am totally convinced that the long trip is what made him that way, because until then, we never had a problem. I hope you don't have the same problem.
Good luck!

A 6-week old - yes! No, that would actually be easier, because they sleep so much in the beginning and you could stop whenever the baby needed to for feeding. You would just need to be prepared to add on more time to your trip. Plus, you would need to get out and stretch anyway. My son travelled by plane on 9 trips his first year, starting at 10 weeks, and flying is difficult to do with a baby: lack of space, ears popping, going through security with all the stuff, etc. Their were many times that I wished I could have been on my own time (well, his time :)). Hope this pep talk helps.

If you're lucky, he should sleep the whole time except for feedings. My sister made an 8 hour trip with her 4 week old and other than waking up for breastfeeding she slept the whole time.

Your child should sleep pretty much the entire trip. You will need to factor in longer rest periods for feedings and changings to make this possible. the one good tip I can give would be to sit in the back with the child for those impromptu awakenings and travel at night.

its not too bad if you have someone with you to sit in the backseat and feed the little one while you drive. The littler the easier to travel really. Theyll sleep most of the time, just be sure to stop for lots of nappy changes and stretches. Have fun!
