In Mary Pipher's book "Reviving Ophelia" she suggests that, along with classes for women so they can protect themselves, we ought to have classes that teach people that rape and attack and assault, etc are wrong. (In Rhode Island there was a study done - both male and female participants- and they came out that 87% of the kids thought that, at one point or another, rape was an appropriate action. There's still a common feeling that, if it happened, she/he got what they deserved. Sad.) My mom and I were talking, and she suggested that they give it as a required class at the high school. For both boys and girls. So, I've only ever heard of this brought up by Mary Pipher. Why haven't I heard of this idea before? Are there people who don't want this to happen, and that's why it hasn't been talked about? So, in Sociology we talked about the idea that maybe the economy determines a lot of our life. so, are there people who get paid, in one way or another, when someone is attacked?

er no. See, this is why kids in Singapore are better at math than Americans -- why teach actual math when you can spend a whole semester telling kids they should not commit violent felonies? At least make the class optional so that the Asian kids trying to get into the Ivy League schools won't have to waste their time.
