I am a sophomore at an almost all Asian school. I transfered this year so I am only taking one AP course. My GPA is 4.2 and my SAT is likely above 1900. I participate in track and clubs such as Red Cross and Model United Nations. I have accumulated over 200 hours so far in community service. What are my chances of getting into UC's? Seeing that I'm asian...my chances are slim. :( help.

Hahaha, with that attitude, I suspect you either went to my high school or my wife's. Full of nerdy asians who like to panic each other about college.

For UC Berkeley or UCLA, yes, the SAT is far too low. Extra currics are just ok, don't really help any. More the bare minimum.

However, you should be fine for UC Riverside.

If you just want to get into any UC, you should be totally fine. It's only getting into the higher ones (and maybe even middle ones with that score) that you should start to worry. You have to realize that your GPA is pretty high for a UC Riverside. Keep that GPA up and take more AP courses next year.

Study for the SAT. There's no reason you should have taken the SAT yet so maybe you're just being too hard on yourself with that 1900 SAT score. You've got plenty of time to start studying. With that GPA, I wouldn't discount Berkeley or UCLA if you can get a high SAT score.

The fact is you are almost certain to get into any of them EXCEPT UCLA and Berkeley with such grades and extra-curricular stuff. UCLA and UCB are the two "elite" UC's with higher standards in general because of demand, but even there, you will have a good chance especially if you put together a strong, compelling application essay. I have two degrees from UCLA and applaud your ambition, just remember to have some fun while at the UC you wind up selecting :)

chances are slim because you're asian? if i'm chancellor at a UC my mindset is this:

"This person has grades, social skills, and wants to give me thousands of dollars for a few years. come on down!! the PRICE is right!!!"
