If the tea kettle is made out of aluminum fill it with water and put a few tablespoons of Cream of Tartar in it and boil the water for 10-15 minutes and rinse out. You may need to wipe with a paper towel. This also works for aluminum pots and pans that are discolored.

Boil some vinegar with water in the kettle a few times and then with plain water.
