Unless an active player dies, he must wait 5 years after retirement before being placed on the ballot. Henderson hasn't been retired that long.

I'd be very much surprised if he's not a first ballot selection when he's eligible. He was the best leadoff hitter of his time, and arguably the best all-time. And aside from an annoying habit of referring to himself in the third person, I don't remember hearing a single negative thing about him.

No, he isn't eligible until 2009, when he will most likely be a first-ballot inductee, barring any steroid controversies or Pete Rose-like suspensions. As for 2007, Cal Ripken, Jr. and Tony Gwynn were inducted, while 2008 holds only one new candidate with a solid chance, Tim Raines, of the 800-stolen base club. Also Goose Gossage will, hopefully, finally get what he deserves and be inducted as well.

Not yet - he's not eligible for 2 more years. His last season was 2003 and you need to be retired for 5 full seasons. He'll be eligible in 2009.

can we be sure if he's even considered retired? he has come back a couple of times already and I doubt that he will let julio franco outplay him "agewise" seriously tho you have to be out of the game for 5 years just to be eligible. he'll be a first ballot selection if he ever stops playing

Rickey was still playing pro ball in the minor last season. I don't know if he's retired yet.

He's not eligible yet. However, he will be by next year, and he will be a first ballot Hall of Famer.
