This is not a silly question. Most pop singers do not know what key they sing in. The average person would not be able to answer your question.

The answer to your question is the guitar is not in a key, but the strings are generally tuned to A440 or to a tuned piano if playing with a band. The music that a guitar plays always has a key ( for example Eb, C, Bb, A minor etc.) the guitar must play the music in the key that the music is written in.
