Even though I love my wife very much I feel that it would be much more romantic to get her flowers for "nothing" on any other day than to do it for Valentines day. However I am a realistic person... can't not give flowers on the day of love... But come on any other day of the year roses are like $25!! Grr

Mike: Here's a true Valentine's story of a buddy of mine I worked with. We worked shift work - 12 hrs on - 12 hrs off with 2 and a half days off per week. My buddy was living with his girlfriend and he ran into this girl he had known in High School. He asked this High School girl friend out for a Valentine's Day evening date and told his live-in girlfriend that he had to work that evening and night. He wined and dined this High School girl friend and bought her some flowers [dozen roses]. The next day, he went to work, starting the afternoon shift. When he arrived back home, his live-in girlfriend was waiting up, mad as a hornet at him and asked him why he had cheated on her. He denied it and his live-in pulled out a card. On the card was written, "Thank you for the lovely evening out and for the roses" - his High School girlfriend had dropped the card in his mail box when he was not home. LOL !!!

Totally agree that flowers on nothing days are so much better. Try just getting her one rose for tomorrow with a card and maybe candy. It is the thought that counts!! (Don't tell her it is because of the cost, we would rather you come up with some corny line like a single rose for my single love or something than to talk about expenses!)

I agree, roses are expensive, but you can make them last a lot longer if you put a little Sprite in the vase... Check out the article on wehow below to see other tips too.

Plus, how about getting her different color flowers, like coral, which represent passion for a different twist? You're a very nice husband, btw. Keep up the good work!

I prefer buying flowers on the discount bargain bin. I don't want $100 worth of roses sent to me. If I had to pick what an man gave me, I'd like a pair of sterling silver dangle cross earrings. About $15.

That's something I always thought was a total waist. You could get ear rings or anything that will increase in value other than flowers. Flowers die and are virtually worthless in my opinion. Give someone something that they will have 20 years down the road instead of stupid flowers.

They have you over a barrel, don't they? My guy always gives me a rose bush for my garden. The thought of paying so much money for something that will fade and die in a week really bothered me, thus, the rose bushes. You should see my yard in the summer! Roses every where. And the smell is so sweet...

I feel your pain - and have often been against the conspiracy to suck money out of men for the sake of marketing.
I say get a bouquet of something else - or something entirely different.

Here is a better idea. Go to Wal-Mart. They have awesome roses for way cheaper. Also, there are alternatives to roses. I prefer carnations, they last longer, smell better, and they are also way cheaper.
