"No man can step into the same river twice."

Our lives constantly change. Therefore, each experience (even if it is the same actions) is different, even if we don't notice the change within ourselves.

If anything, we're more experienced the second time we come across the same experience.

I'm not really sure, but my guess is that everything that happens to you may seem like something else that happened in the past, but it can't be EXACTLY like what happened in the past.

For instance, suppose you were in a car accident at the corner of fifth and third at two in the morning on August 12, 1990. The car that hit you was driven by John Smith in a red 1978 Datsun. you were rear-ended while driving your blue 1989 Taurus but the only damage was to the passenger side taillight.

Fast forward to August 12, 2000 2AM. At the SAME corner, while driving the SAME car you were rear-ended with the SAME damage by the SAME guy who was also driving the SAME car.

Freaky, yes. Coincidental? Yes. EXACTLY the same. Well, no. Even if everything else is exactly the same (nevermind the logistics of that) it's a totally different time (ten years later).

To me this means that the writer is trying to say that things that happen in time are unique. Just because something happens to you doesn't mean it can happen again in EXACTLY the same way. Each time something happens the circumstances are always different, even if in just a very slight way. Hope this helps.

Its like 'you'll never cross the same river twice' because the river is flowing & changing constantly. Our cells are dying every min & fresh ones grow. So our body does not remain the same from one day to the next.

Every event in one's life is unique. All the more reason to seek to savor each event. It won't be repeated exactly the same.

It seems fairly meaningless. Just ask people who have been struck by lightning twice.
