I have also been against the celebration Valentine Day on the ground that it is not part of our culture to celebrate lovers' day, until I read an article by Gnani in Ananda Vikatan. Gnani has castigated politicians like Ramdoss, who are against such celebrations. They are stated to be in the forefront for social justice. The argument of the protagonists of social justice for special measures for socially back ward castes is based on the view that the backward castes are exploited and suppressed for being in the lower rung of the caste system. If their intention is to create a caste less egalitarian society, they ought not to have any objection to love and love marriages. You may says that they are only against the vulgar display of love and their antics in the public places. Gnanai refutes such argument as fallacious because generally these lovers seek to remain away from the public glare and remain in secluded places enjoying each others' attention. It should be welcomed and encouraged. It is his argument that love and love marriages alone will lead to a caste less society and it alone will be the anti dote for the evil of untouchability and discrimination on the basis of caste. I am able to see the force in his argument. The hypocrites among the politicians, who are masquerading as the protectors of social justice, will not stomach this bold approach to love. I accept it and I commend you to do it.
