This is a VERY relative impression. Many eBay sellers who sell the "right" products at the right prices and shipping still do well.

As far as some other comments:

Fees are trending too high. I agree on that. As a Store seller all my listing fees at least doubled.

I also agree there are a lot of fake products and rip-offs. there are certain things you really shouldn't buy on eBay ( or at all IMHO).

Shipping costs for most reputable sellers are reasonable and people tend to sell things you can't find at Wal-Mart. I ship world-wide and many international buyers are more than willing to pay $20-30 to ship a small item if it's something they really want. I also buy things and resell them- things you don't find at Wal-Mart or any other store.

People have ALWAYS bought things they can't see in person AND paid shipping costs. from the Sears catalog in the "old days" to mail-order, infommercial/direct response ads, etc. Honest reputable eBay sellers usually charge LESS for shipping than most mail-order or internet sellers. People are going to be buying more online, not less.

I am not saying eBay is the best venue for that, but often you can buy someting online that you can't find anywhere else and pay less, even after shipping.

I believe for two reasons
1- ebay keeps rasing their prices for listing and when you buy and pay through paypal there is also a fee and alot of people dont like this..
2- I also think alot of people would rather save on shipping and go out and know exactly what they are buying, they can go to the store and hold it in their hands and look at it instead of looking at a picture of it..

Too many rip-off products. I ordered an Ecko Red wallet and it was not the real thing. Some Chinese company just glued a fake logo on it. One summer day, I had left it in my car and the logo melted all over my seat!

Because they've raised prices to force out small-time sellers, and more importantly, they have initiated new policies (just last month), ostensibly to "protect" bidder privacy, but the net effect not only does NOT protect bidders from scam offers, but allows shillling sellers to shill without detection.

Because I got scammed twice on that site! The ebay officials did nothing to help me. I'm never using it again.

the fee's are way to high, and there is too much crap on it now. I agree that Ebay does nothing to help when you get scammed.

There are more Super WalMarts everywhere. And, shipping costs have risen with the cost of fuel.

It oversold itself, on movies, radio's, everywhere.
People have this tendency to stop doing something once it becomes too well-known, or once it seems that everybody else is doing it it. It's out personal drive to be "different and unique".
