check out that link...customize any dell laptop...you can include/exclude whatever you want so it's right for you. Dell has great customer service also so they should help you out also.

Depending on your budget Id say either a Macbook or Macbook Pro from Apple. In my experience these are the most reliable laptops right now. Every laptop and Operating System is not without its faults but if you want to have no viruses, spyware, etc I'd reccommend going with a Mac instead of Windows based laptop. I don't want to start a flame war between Mac users and PC users on here, because I use both machines and linux as well and all are with their own faults and problems, but for what you need a Apple laptop will be the best. They not only look nice, they are easy to use, as said before don't get viruses and spyware as of right now, and rock solid stable. However they certainly will be alot more expensive than your average PC laptop from Dell etc. but by the time you pay for all the other software fees, (antivirus etc) over the period of which you own the laptop, the Apple laptop will have saved you money versus the pc laptop. I hope this helps.

It all depends on what you need it for. If you're going to be doing a lot of design or multimedia work, I'd go with the 17-inch hi-resolution display, 4 GB of RAM, and a 200 GB 7200 RPM hard drive. For more basic stuff you can just stick with the standard configuration (15-inch display, 2 GB of RAM, 250 GB 5400 RPM hard drive). Whether to get the normal or glossy display is entirely up to you. The normal display has a matte coating, so you don't have to worry about glare. The glossy display shows blacks better (and maybe colors, I can't remember), but since it's a glossy screen you will get an annoying glare whenever light hits it the wrong way. I personally like the matte screen, but if you'll be spending a lot of time watching movies in the dark on it then get the glossy.

Tell us what your budget is and if you'll be playing games on it or not. Also if it is simply going to be confined to a single room, why are you buying a laptop instead of a desktop.

I have a bad experieince with dell. as soon as the warranty period is over, they start giving trouble. I would recomend HP Pavillion, there's a new model, and its great. If you think of a desktop istead of a laptop here's a great one . please refer : http://www.shopping.hp.com/store/product/product_detail/RN635AA%2523ABA/1?jumpid=in_r329_personalization/browse2/PDP_PDP

I wouldn't exactly call it a laptop, but it sounds like it meets your needs. http://h71036.www7.hp.com/hho/cache/447010-0-0-225-121.html?jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
