I am graduating soon from college, and I my parents have been divorced my entire life. I am not especially close with either of them, but moderately close to my entire extended family, including them... if that akes any sense. Neither of them have financially supported me through my education, but I know they are both proud of me and want to be there.

Given the very complicated nature of this relationship, I have decided to do what I want on my graduation day... since I deserve it. I plan on inviting them all to the ceremony, and then have one family luncheon at my favorite restaurant afterwards. I expect both sides of my family, and my close friends, to be civil for my sake.

I feel like I am making the best decision to include everyone who cares, while making sure my special day is a happy one for me... but I was hoping for advice from someone who may have been through this or parents? Actually, any advice would be great?

CONGRATULATIONS! and great decision making !!! be civil and cordial to everyone and don't take anything they do or say personally. Remember it's your day, you've worked hard for it. If they don't behave, smile and interrupt each one for a second and whisper "thanks for helping me celebrate my very special day, I'm REEAAAALLLY glad you could come".

Good Luck!

plain and simple, the parents had a child together, it means a life time of dealing with each other and families. Have a party, invite all and there are those who are too immature to learn to get along for one afternoon, then too bad. What will happen when it comes to a wedding or a new baby. 2 weddings?

The college you are leaving will be missing a very bright lady. Good for you.
I think you are right on with your thoughts. I am sure all will go well and I wish you well in the future, but doubt you will need it:)

I think you have worked out the best situation for yourself. This is your time to celebrate your accomplishment, and that is what all your guests should be there for. Congratulations and enjoy your achievement!

Invite everyone, I hope that you dont need to remind them that it is your day and that they need to act like adults - but you might need to. Congrats!
