After I removed the glued on nails, my own fingernails are not in good shape. Plus, they don't seem to be growing.

Your finger nails are not in good condition, because
1. they etch your nail for the fake nail sticks better.
2. Your real nail grows when the fake one is on, so the new nail meets the fake nail and that is why you have a ridge.
3. your nail cannot breath while the fake nails are on that is why your nails are weak.

becareful with have artificial nails all the time because you can grow mold from the being wet.

Yes, while wearing acrylics you can develop a fungus if any moisture gets between the acrylic layer and your nail--this is more common if you don't keep up with 2-week fills or like the thinner layers rather than a thick layer.

Also, it can take time for the nail to recover. You just had something that was glued to your fingertip violently removed (however gently it was done)--there's going to be some trauma. It will take at least 6 weeks, if not longer, to grow the damage off and your nail may be weak for several months after that. Drink more milk and try eating more gelatin; also, taking a multivitamin will ensure you're getting the nutrients you need and help restore your nails. It'll take a while, but in the end your nails will recover.

And here is how to solve that problem. It sucks but don't ever get fake nails again. You need to cut your real nails down very short. Then buy nail stuff, not polish but strengthening gel or something by Sally Hansen, (go to Sally's Beauty Supply or Wal-Mart). Keep cutting them short for a few months and keep using the nail hardener. There are so many of those products out now. Just don't give up and go back to the nail place. They will ruin your real nails which can actually be more beautiful. It just takes a little time.

Usually after removing artificial nails, your natural nail is damaged, e.g. thin and weak. Load up on your vitamins and make sure that you take biotin to strengthen your nails. You can also put a nail hardener on your nails. Sally Hansen's has several good ones. Other than that, it is going to take some time.

i had the very same problem. I cut my nails really short and put clear bease coat and then a top coat onto the nail. I also used cuticle cream all day! Little tube in your hangbag and rub in in when ever you think of it. Change the polish every couple of days. Then once a week i'd put good handcream on and put cotton goves on) Overnight.
So keep your nails short and neat. Have regular manicures and they will grow!
Take multi vit each day will heap too.

YES! I had them put on for my wedding. After having them removed, my own nails were so damaged it took a year for them to get the "ridges" out from the glue. Now they are still brittle and break easily and never grow very long. I never had trouble before.

Give it time...your real nails need time to breathe again. In time they will be healthy again. Get manicures ..to get them back in shape!
