you have stupid and irresponsible people in every age caterogy not just teenagers its not like when you hit the age 18 you are automatically mature and everything its all the person so why do you have to be 18 to do everything??

It's just an arbitrary number that was chosen, God only knows how long ago.
Society has to draw the line at some age to determine when someone can be responsible for themselves. It's not just a matter of restricting privileges, but acknowledging that people assume responsibility for themselves at a certain age.
Yeah, you can't buy cigarettes or vote yet, but at the same time you can't be sued civilly. Your parents assume that until you reach 18. It protects not just society but the underaged also.

Because "the man" says yo are an adult in the eyes of the law at 18, regardless of your marurity level.

I agree with you 100%. What it should be is a life test. Fail the test? You don't get adult privileges. Can't balance a checkbook? You can't open a bank account. Don't understand how sex works? You can't buy a playboy.
Hey, if you can't drive a car, you don't get your license? Right?

age 18 tends to be the age where real life hits you because you start to think about life after years of living under your parents and going to school.
