Every pill affects every woman differently. Don't trust any answer that tells you "this is the best" because while it may have worked well for one person, it might not work for you. It can be very hit-and-miss with birth control.
I've been on Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo, Depo-Provera and am currently on Yaz. I've had mixed experiences with each. However, I've never gained weight from any method of birth control.
Depo (the shot) increased my depression (my antidepressant prescription tripled in the time I was on it; now that I'm off, it's back to where it was before). I also lost vaginal lubrication and elasticity, causing painful intercourse. No period, but the effect on my sex life made that far less than worth it. Bad mood swings and hot flashes. Doctors are now saying not to be on the shot for more than 2 years, as it can cause bones not to absorb calcium because the shot does not contain estrogen.
Ortho worked for a while (that was the first method of hormonal contraception I was on), and it helped with my periods for a while, but I got used to the hormones after 1.5 years.
I'm considering changing from Yaz to Yasmin because I think that I need to be on a higher dose birth control pill. (Yaz and Yasmin are made by the same company and have the same hormones; Yaz is just a lower dose pill.) My cramps are getting painful again and I'm basically comatose for the first two-three days of my period.
If you don't have problems with your period, go with a low-dose pill (Yaz or Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo). It's just as effective and will have fewer or less severe side-effects like weight gain and depression/mood swings.

I was on Ortho-Lo and that was okay, but I need a larger does of hormones for my body. I really like Ovcon 30 (and the generic of it).
With both of these, I haven't gained weight and have been able to lose some as well. I have been depressed, but it wasn't the bc. And the only time I experienced mood swings was the first period after I began the pills as my body adjusted.
Really, though, every woman reacts differently to different hormone levels and pill compositions -- talk to your gyno about your concerns and see if you can find the right pill for you. What works for me (or anyone else) might not work for you.

These days it is really very important to have birth control otherwise results are not always welcoming , even I did this mistake & result is today I'm having 3 kids in 4years marriage because I was also scared just like you and kept findig out that which Birth Control Pill doesn't make you gain wait or gives you black patches on your face as I had seen my sisters suffering with the side effects of Birth Control Pill but now I learnt my lesson and disscussed the whole thing with my specialist and he suggested me ,The Marina, it is just like Copper-T but it doesn't have any copper in it and it costs you little bit like b/w $350-$400 but it is not a little bit of problem and you are safe for Full 5 yrs. just have fun without any worry of condom breaking /missed pill/gaining wait/having pimples/or waiting for 2-12 months for getting pregnant if you want to after stopping the intake of pills .As Marina can be placed anytime by your specilist and can be removed any time if you want baby before 5 yrs. This is super and you don't have any problem while doing sex and you don't even feel it anytime ,do ask your specialist about it .

Considering the fact that start manipulate does now not look after you from STDs. Most effective a condom can try this. It can be nice that your gf is on start manipulate, as you might be right about it being extra amazing against being pregnant. Nevertheless oral start manage and different contraceptives, such because the beginning control rings and pictures, don't defend you or her from STDs. Pulling out/Withdrawing (some thing you decide upon to name it) is also for the prevention of being pregnant, not STDs. The one time it's reliable to now not use condoms is when each of you are monogamous and each of you could have not too long ago been checked for STDs and HIV/AIDS, and had negative results undoubtedly. Even supposing you recognize you and your companion were monogamous, you will have to both be verified every 6 months just to be definite. Don't forget that you do not ought to have intercourse to get HIV/AIDS, and the final thing you need to do is provide your accomplice an STD.

I am on Seasonique now and highly recommend it. It has slightly different hormones than Seasonale. My body did have a bit of trouble adjusting to the different levels at first-spotting for the first few weeks. Doctor said that this was OK and normal. Just finished my first 3 month cycle and my period was about 2 days long. Very good BC for the money since there is no generic.

you have to try different brands to see which is perfect for you. no pill is perfect for everybody. one pill may be perfect for me with no side effects and make you go like mad. in pill brands it always takes trial and error.
