Well, Beyonce is popular and trendy right now with a good body, so that is why they picked her. But I don't think that is fair to models, especially black models who had and still fight and earn the right to get on the cover of Sports Illustrated like Tyra Banks. Honestly, Beyonce shouldn't get the cover because she is not a model or looks like a typical model. Right now, everyone is hyping her up.

Sports illustrated is not in the business of promoting modeling (that is the fashion industry's job). They are in the business of selling magazines.
On a global scale there are not many other female entertainers more popular than Beyonce. I am sure in many countries outside the USA more men know her than some fashion model. Thanks to technology and globalization the world is not just about about the USA.
Besides, the "starving, bag of bones" supermodel fad is fading, SI is trying to get ahead of the curve.
As to all this talk about "airbrushing" I have been reading....grow up....SI air brushes all the female covers (just like a gazillion other mags). It's not like they had to do that procedure for the very first time just for her....get over it people. This is busines....not life and death!

I think it's because she's popular right now but i think one of the models deserve it because that's something they all work for.. and it's always a big deal on who actually gets it.
