I think it is not as easy as simply inserting the word "not" before the verb. Think of it more in terms of sentential logic, and then interpret what the "opposite" of the statement would be.

NOT (The sum of the angles of a triangle is 180 degrees.)
since the statement "the sum of the angles of a triangle is 180 degrees" is a true statement, then the negation is simply FALSE, or more specifically any false statement will do as the opposite. The opposite of true is anything false. For instance, you could say "a quarter is worth the same as a nickel," and it would be the correct opposite statement.

NOT (Lockers must be turned in by the last day of class.)
would better translate "Lockers do not have to be turned in by the last day of class." (They may or may not be, but they do not HAVE to be.)

NOT (I get mad whenever you do that.)
would be "I do not get mad whenever you do that." (Meaning, I might get mad or I might not get mad, but I won't get mad every time.)

NOT (I won't say that unless I mean it.)
would be "I won't say that unless I do not mean it." (Meaning, I won't say that unless it is a lie.)
