I know that it is still sold in the store, so somebody must still be buying it. That suprises me in today's health conscious world.

Yes, it makes the MOST flaky and delicate pie crusts. Also, when frying at a high temp or for a long period of time, Lard holds up better than vegetable oil. It's not necessary for all fried things, as several healthier alternatives are available though - and gives a great flavor to fried foods.

You use it in pastries and pie dough, also baking powder biscuits and bannock. I don't think a person is suppose to ingest it by the pound, but in moderation I'm sure it as safe as anything else we eat.

Most ethnic people still use it. My mother stopped using it because of the cholesterol, but back in the day, it was used for frying. She would fry fish in that stuff, eggs, meat, you name it buddy, lard was king.

Now we use Mazola corn oil...

Lots of recipes. Don't eat it just use it. Also it "greases" a cake pan. My grandfather was always talking about too much cholesterol. He had biscuits, gravy and eggs every day. Lots of butter. It killed him. He was 97 when they killed him with whole grain oatmeal.

I use it to make home made Tortilla's, although Bacon grease is the best. Tortilla's have a better flavor with it.

I don't buy it but you can use it in pie crust and biscuits to make them light as a feather and wonderfully flakey.

if you have a deep fryer, then try deep frying some fish in lard, it is out of this world.

Makes great pie crust. I don't use it now, but it's what I was taught to use when I first learned.

Feed it to the birds in the back yard. They need fat in their diet.
They also need statins.
