I can't believe I just ran across your question today. I was just looking at an old One Step Ahead catalog early today and I saw just the exact thing you are talking about (it's called a Bumper Bonnet). I just dug it out of the trash because I couldn't find it online without the item number. I remember thinking when I looked at it that it seemed a little silly and unnecessary! But if you want to know where to find one for whatever reason, look here:

I don't think this is necessary unless the child has a medical condition. I think it would weigh the kid down and throw their balance off. There are medical ones for kids that need them, but I'm sure they are very expensive. There are also bike helmets for babies for when you put them in those baby seats on your bike, or at least there were when my kids were babies. Having said that they weren't necessary...I am sure there is some company that makes them...

Not sure about a helmet to use for learning to walk but my daughter is being fitted for one for plagiocephaly (a flat head). On the bright side, at least it will protect her head.

Yes, it's true. Here is one website that has products for babies. There are also bike helmets for babies, if you need something that will do double-duty; those are available (at least online) at Target.com, Amazon.com, and I'm sure many others. Happy shopping!

My two month old son was diagnosed with plagiocephaly its a term used for babies or infants whose heads are not round. The helmet is called a DOC-Band. " Dynamic Orthotic Cranioplasty". Why would you want your child to wear one of these. Let me tell you it hurts my heart to see my son going through this, he has to go to physical therapy because he also has torticollis in his neck. Meaning he can not turn his neck all the way to the right. The doctors said that he was too comfortable in the womb and stayed in one postion. That is why is head is flat on one side. thankfully there is nothing wrong devolpmentally. So please do not think its fun to see babies or other kids wearing these devices. It hurts alot to see my baby going through this. And they $3000, for a DOC-Band. Some insurance companies wont pay for them because they think its cosmetic. Im not coming down on you or anything but it hurts to go through this.
