Why do you think some American Indian tribes made partnerships with settlers?

Some of the first settlers were of the same spirit as the Native Americans. And the white men were a novelty of sorts at first.
And later the French, and British used them to stir up trouble
with Americans. In the end though, all dealings with white men
ended up with native Americans getting the worst of the deal.
They lost everything.
