What is the motivation behind this?

I think people answer the Yahoo Answers questions for a combination of reasons. The first reason is that the question from their site is on the Yahoo search page directly under the search box. It's a curiosity factor. You see a question and want to see what the answer was. Another reason would be boredom. You go to the Answers link and see what kinds of questions are asked. The third reason would be to see if other people are helpful and knowledgeable enough out there to give you thought-provoking answers to a variety of questions. The last reason I can think of is a superiority competition factor. Since Yahoo has a point system in place, users try to accumulate as many points as possible to get on the leaderboard.

My motivation is to help someone with some area of knowledge or skill that I have. For example, I am an IT (Info. Tech) Administrator and there is a section in here for just that "Computers and the Internet". In my journey through life thus far I have learned that the simplest thing to me could be such a big problem to someone who's not technically inclined. I have also been told too that I give very good and sound advice.

So my motivation is to HELP others.

What I have found in helping though - is that I AM being HELPED as well, although this is not what I had set out to do. I have come across solutions in here that had evaded me before. So I am learning at the same time that I am teaching. I'll go further and add that YA has given me hope that GOOD, HELPFUL, KIND, CARING people DO EXIST in this world (unfortunately meeting then in everyday life is rare). I had long begun to disbelieve that.

That's my contribution.

Wonderful exercise. People do their sincere best for it is all meant to be impersonal, thus no direct judgment as a result no pain here..Relief.Recognition follows with acceptance of an answer , not a person but qualities ingrained within answer...Highly rewarding...Sup for a Soul...In true there is no asker, but question and there is nothing but answer , no "body" to be judged behind...i m p e r s o n a l

I am an artist and because it is an detached impersonal forum I learn about my tastes, thought patterns, insights and beliefs. It helps me put into context the musings in my thoughts. A sounding board for the odds and ends to come together....and once in a while the asker chooses my answer as best...I like to think it's a sharing of inspiration.

To have something to do, keep the mind going. Answering half this questions helps me get away from my own issues. Having an ital mind is better than boredom.

People are bored, want to help people, gain points that they can later use to ask questions and/or receive free gifts from Yahoo!

Frequently boredom, but it is nice to help someone with a problem, and people ask some pretty funny questions, too (some are funny, but some are just stupid though)!
