The watt (symbol: W) is the SI derived unit of power, equal to one joule per second. A human climbing a flight of stairs is doing work at the rate of about 200 watts; a highly trained athlete can work at up to approximately 2000 watts for brief periods. An automobile engine produces 25 000 watts (approximately 30 horsepower) while cruising. A typical household incandescent light bulb uses 40 to 100 watts.

KID FRIENDLY!!
that;s tricky 'cuz almost all of electrical terms deal in abstract - no one sees the battery get 'empty'
IMO a watt is most like a speed - miles per hour, or walking/running around
maybe get to battery powered cars, or a flashlight and a toy car
hopefully you can find one of each that use the same size batteries - I hope AA
put fresh batteries is each and turn them both on and leave them on
I bet the car will drain its batteries first, before the flashlight
because the toy car runs at a higher wattage/amperage than the falshlight, even though both started with the same voltage!!
its like walking and running, a kid can only so far before she's too tired to run (high wattage use) she could WALK alot farther (but cover the distance mcuh slower) low wattage!
did that do it??

b)An International System unit of power equal to one joule per second.
c)Unit of electrical power, 1882, in allusion to James Watt (1736-1819), Scottish engineer and inventor. Wattage is recorded from 1903.

Yes, his comeback has been amazing. Who would have "thunk it?". I will support and vote for John McCain. He will serve his country well as president as he has in all areas of his life.
