Help with virtual villagers 2: lost children?

Question

i am stuck and can't get more food...
the beach is full of algaes, the coconut tree is empty and the birds keep atacking my field of crops
so my question is how i get the algaes off the beach and keep away the birds?

"to stop the birds from eating your crops you need to get your master farmer to the north where there is wood (TWICE) then he will build the scarecrow. the wood is to the north of the research table. "
