I was wondering if downloading songs from Limewire was legal or not?
I heard that it is illegal to do filesharing or putting songs on limewire but is just downloading them illegal also? I heard that there is a law that you are alowed to use anything there is on the internet.

if you download songs on there you're downloading it from someone else, so therefore you are both "sharing" that file. so yes, technically it's illegal... unless the song has a license, but that's rare.

Limewire is not illegal if you download a song that the person, who put the song on Limewire, has the rights to, otherwise it is illegal, because you are downloading copyrighted material.

Depending on the country you are preforming this act from. In Canada where I am currently situated there is no law that prohibits the act of file sharing. Yet in the US it is considered illegal to share files. There are almost always loop-holes in the law where the sharing of licensed file maybe legal. My perspective would be to help everyone out and purchase the CD. If you only enjoy one song off the artist's album then iTunes is also an excellent choice. The artist, and government will be pleased with your actions.

I haven't heard that law. It is ILLEGAL to even download from them. You also risk the chance of getting a virus.

It's illegal to upload or share it, and when you download it, you're not sharing it (depending on your settings), so its not really illegal if it already exists.

No, unless the artist themself/selves is releasing it for free.

Yes, it's illegal.
And it serves you right when you pick up a trojan or spy-ware virus.
