The cold weather played a huge role in that game. Yhe Saints are used to playing in warm weather not snow. But the Bears are used to hot, cold, rain, everything. It wasn't fair at all!

I'm a huge saints fan and I think it was completely fair! The bears earned their position.Sean Payton lost the game. LIke you said it's cold and raining. That make things slippery right? So why only run the ball 12 times the entire game? The bears defense said their number one enemy was duece mcalister!! He ran the ball 6 times the entire game! So why not make them shut down Duece? Recievers couldn't hold on to the ball, couldn't run at normal speed, or get traction to make cut or run their routes! But yet Payton decides to pass like crazy starting in the first quarter like they were down by thirty points!!! Every game Peyton had some sort of plan or trick up his sleeve, except that one!!

that is what makes football so fun, the weather.
secondly the Saints did really well in the rain especially for a dome team

but rain or no rain, you really should get the team ready under the worst circumstances. its not the Bears fault that they are use to hot, cold, rain, etc. you should blame the saints for not getting use to the weather.
is it fair that the colts had to go to Miami to go play in the rain, a condition in which you say should favor the bears? and look at the outcome

and also there is a famous football quote that "the rain or snow give an advantage to the worser team"
because in an ideal condition the better team will win, under bad conditions it will level the playing field. i would take it as a complement that the Saints did worse in the rain, showing they are better than the bears.

and to James K. (below me)
he's right on the money, and makes the best point.

It doesn't really matter if it was fair or not. The Bears had the #1 seed for a reason and that means home field advantage. That should mean something other than it's not fair. The saints had a great season but could not adjust to adverse conditions. Just like the bears in the SB.

There's really a simple solution to this:
Domes need to be outlawed for professional sports teams. if 95% of the teams play with the elements, why don't these teams have to? If Seattle can play outdoors all the time w/ all the rain, and the Bears and Packers play outside w/ the crazy wind and cold weather, why do other teams get to play in a dome?

Wusses :D

But you could have said the same thing if they played in New Orleans because the Bears are not used to playing in a dome except for like the one time they play in Detroit. But that is the point of Home field advantage, for one team to have the advantage over the other.

Suck it up. These guys are the best football players in the world. Weather is not going to make that much of a difference. If the Saints wanted to have homefield, they should have won more games in the regular season.

I agree, the Saints were at a serious disadvantage. But there is nothing anyone can do to control the weather. If the game would have been played in New Orleans it would have been a very different outcome.

Well thats why the bears won 14 games...to earn homefield advantage (heard of it?) The team that does the best in the regular season is the one who gets the homefield advantage in the playoffs.

That's the beauty of "home field advantage". Was it fair that the Eagles had to travel to N.O. to play in a dome in front of all of the Saints fans? It's all part of the game.

football is meant to play outdoors. end of story. whine all you want about losing to the bears. i hate the bears too, but they earned their spot having homefield advantage. sorry, but it is very rare to see dome teams advance to the super bowl without having homefield advantage. saints lost, bears won. then bears got spanked in the super bowl. end of story. good luck to the saints next year, but dont be sore losers!
