Which is the correct spelling?

I ask because I have always thought it's 2 l's, but I keep seeing it both ways in the newspaper today and it is kind of driving me nuts.

Either is acceptable, but the preference depends on where you live.

In the USA, it's typically "canceled".
In England and the rest of the UK, it's typically "cancelled".

Depends where you live.
In USA it's canceled (and traveled)
In UK and Australia it's cancelled (and travelled)
Don't know about Canada or Africa.

They are both acceptable spellings of the word. One of those weird words that doesn't have only one spelling but is the same word.
