The most powerful member of society are white, male and wealthy. They control the media and decide what will be news to others. Most people believe what is said on the news. Their is sexism, racism, ableism, hetero-sexism, ageism, discrimination over a persons looks or weight, class-ism, etc. The victims of these power imbalances begin to internalize the oppression and thus begin to exhibit destructive behaviours, that in turn contribute to the bad situation. Apparently in the US constitution one is supposed to be allowed to have religious freedom, and freedom of speech but one just has to look at the was Muslims are portrayed and treated to realize what a hypocrisy that statement is.

Power can lead men to go bonkers with anything and everything. Especially inequalities and discriminations.......It puts thing out of context.

Discriminating against Fat people is about the last stronghold in US society today. Its still quite acceptable to do it in many areas of American Life.

The descrimination in the medical system against mental health consumers is outragious ! There are laws that ensure that those without insurance have to be treated by any public hospital that recieves federal money. You simply, go into the E.R. and fill out an "indigent form" and you are at least checked out ! If a mentally ill person has no insurance and no obvious crisis in thier physical health and shows up at an E.R., at least around my area, they are turned away and told to contact thier county mental health agency.OR, God Forbid !, The police are called and they are sent to a state psychiatric institution which they will possibly not survive or at least ever leave ! Here in Georgia there's been a big scandal FINALLY over the 5 healthy but mentally ill patients who died under suspicious circumstances in one state "dumping ground" by the hands of sadistic guards in the past year ! And, I have tried to go to several of the ever changing, incompetant, and often bizarre, psychiatrists who the county somehow gets to work here a few days a month. I have filed complaints about two of them who were really out of line ! I wouldn't send my obsessive compulsive dog there ! So, I am trapped into poverty by this countrie's predjudice against me. I have to continue on my S.S.D.I. because I desperatly need the insurance it gives me to continue with my recovery, therapy, and the medications I require to deal with illness that is every bit as real and painful and treatable as any of the physical illnesses that our medical world pours most of thier energy and money into ! Why don't we just randomly pick a very common physical illness and refuse to treat that ?!"O.K., all diabetics, if you need help we'll send you to the docs who couldn'tg get work anywhere else ! And if you get really sick or blind or loose a leg we'll lock you up in filthy, cold, buildings and you'll be cared for by people who probably spent thier childhoods torturing animals, until you die !You shouldn't have been so weak and allowed yourself to get diabitis !" Sorry, but you asked !

Well, since you posted this in the woman's section, I assume you mean gender.
The inequalities are basically economic as well as administrative powers. Which are connected. But this is going to be kinda disorganised.

Now, I guess we could look at power in several different lights. Economic power, political power, and power in the home, or with people in terms of respect.

Economic power -- Here in canada the wage gap is about 29 cents -- of course, women who are unmarried with no children make more money. The disparity in earnings leads to the other disparities. Less money means less bargaining power in relationships. Less access to healthcare, childcare, and other services. Less autonomy in relationships -- can't divorce someone if you can't support yourself.

Plus less women CEOs means it would be harder for other women to "climb the ranks". The women who wanted to would have to work harder. Women have to work twice as hard for the same amount of respect, especailly in business and politics. Which leads me to...

Political power -- less representation for women means that women's issues aren't being addressed, and that women aren't regarded as professionals as often. It has both practical and theoretic concequences.

Then there's power of authourity and respect -- which are obviously connected to economics. Every woman knows what I'm talking about.

Basically, the inequality is the attitude of women, the wage gap, the lack of respect. Those not in power are going to be opressed and taken advantage of. The lack of women representing women means those in politics aren't creating things that are positive for women. Less priority would go to women's issues. Less women CEOs means the company is more geered towards accomadating men.

I'm not a women's studies student mind you, I just read a lot.

Ask yourself what are the chances of a female getting a job only because of her gender and the chances of a male not getting the same job because of his gender.

Ask yourself what are the chances of females getting preference fo college grants and scholarships because they are females and the chances of male not getting the same because they are males.

Ask yourself what are the chances of a male going to jail because of a fight with a female in marrige or a live in relationship because he is a male and the chances of a female not going to jail under the same circumstances because she is female.

Are you still asking??????
