As a married couple with no kids (yet), I don't understand why anyone would want to have kids before marriage. The companionship and togetherness that my husband and I can experience is awesome -- having to worry about and care for a child right away in a marriage would be extremely tough, and would give you less time to focus on each other and your relationship. We're thoroughly enjoying our baby-free years, and our ability to get up and go whenever we want, without worrying about finding a sitter or taking an infant with us. It definately makes the first years easier!
