Supporting the troops is doing that which will preserve as many lives as possible.
With no clearly defined and achievable mission to accomplish, our most seasoned military leaders in Iraq disagree with the concept of sending more troops to follow the same rudderless course of action the Bush has allowed to happen.
When, like Bush, you apparently earnestly believe you can compensate for a lack of competence by increasing the number of lives you are willing to snuff out, there is no limit to the scope of your failure.
The worst argument being used by idiots in Washington is "If wee pull out they will follow us home". Now that may have been a valid argument in the Middle Ages, but the big question is how will "they" do that? Like the North Vietnamise I guess.
Ever try to explain to a fool why throwing rocks at a hornet's nest is a bad idea? Did they listen?
A congressman from California (Lundgrin) was on the TV tonight ranting and seemingly drunk again, spouting the "If you don't support the way Bush is running the war you are not supporting the troops" crap. He also said that people wanted a new strategy, and are not supporting it now that it is in place.
Excuse me?
What old strategy? What new strategy? Increasing the scope of the error is a sign of insanity, not of any strategy, new or old.

Your question is a perfect example of how not to support the troops. Let me clue you in on how to. Even if you think the war is wrong doesn't make it wrong or immoral. Take it from some one who was there just because i was in the Iraqi war doesn't mean i am for it. I as many troops were just following orders. What the troop's don't need is people saying how illegal the war is and how the war is immoral. When you bash Bush even if you disagree with him as a person or leader you are bashing the troops. Iraq is becoming a Vietnam in the respect that the people of this country are majority against the war. Who suffers the most? Not the people of this country but the men and women who risk their lives... the troops.

NO, we all stand behind our men and women in the military even if we do not believe in war. The republicans are the ones that have tried to say if you did not support the war you did not support the troops that is BS. It was the protest against the government that stopped the Viet Nam war not the people not supporting the soldiers that fought in that war,by the way a lot of them were drafted to that war as soon as they turned 18 years old. That's one reason we don't have a draft anymore.

Absolutely! You know it is funny if the media says that the war is illegal and immoral long enough than everyone starts to believe it. What is the truth? The truth is that is all about money and politics they have to disagree or they will stand on the same side As Sad as this is People in the military are going to die. They are trained to kill and avoid being killed. Not to have tea parties and play cards. the only choice that we have is to support those in the military that are living daily with the fact that they could die any minute When they signed their name and swore to defend this nation they gave up their right to choose They have to do what they are told. Supporting our troops is not asking questions or judging their orders and the actions the pentagon is taking, but as a supporting citizen you should be lifting them up instead of tearing down the only thing that brings them comfort (Doing what they do for you, being shot, blown up all the nasties that go along with war ) so that you can be free. The cold hard truth is Their are those of us who can and do! and then their are those of us who can but don't. I say leave us alone If you want to support your troops help our family's at home. Lift us up! and shut the hell up The only reason that you even care is because your party is against the war! what about the soldier. How would you like to be the wife of a fallen hero. and then go to the grocery store and have a friend say to you That is such a shame Just what did your husband die for anyway! this is illegal! you should sue! To hear these things daily and have your husbands honor tarnished by ideas that are only fueled by politics Stop and try not to think red or blue But Red White and Blue Let them finish so their is no disgrace

Claiming that you support the troops by supporting Bush's illegal and immoral war is the same the same as claiming you support the troops by sending them body bags.

I think your question is a silly one designed to draw deistain to the President, but no you don't have to approve of President Bush's decisions or those made by the Congress to support the troops.
Its kind of like Bill Clinton's, under the desk indiscretions and disrespect of MY white house, while he was being paid out of MY tax money!! That's why he was impeached he was a liar, and never would confess. hahaha I still supported the troops!

NO you don't have to support the presidents plan whatsoever. Supporting the troops means that you understand that they have to do as ordered, but it would be wiser to have them really to defend our own country and to help in disasters, and to secure our borders and to hope that they keep us protected as the consitiuaion states, I took the oath so I as a veteran support them and I do not agree with the Bush War Mongers Plan.

Point blank.. supporting the troops means that you do not hold them accountable for doing their job as they have been ordered. It also means that you will not leave them stranded.
It also means that you will do everything as you can as an American to stop the madman that has put them into an unwinnable situation OR try to fix the situation to make it winnable.
It is just a ploy by the right to play this game of 'if you don't support Bush, you don't support the troops.' That's flat just crazy.

Illegal and immoral war? Ever hear of 9/11 or is bombing a US city ok with you?
Your question sounds more like 'When did you stop beating you kids?'. You have presented a conclusion without any support for it.

Political rhetoric. That's why the pubes are still behind the Bush. Pubes are single minded. They equate war with supporting the troops. The troops have no say in the war they're fighting.
Unfotunately with this war, good lives, american and iraqi, are being wasted.
