Okay, like the title says I want to move out of the US. But I am not sure where to go, but it cant be super expensive. I would actually prefer to get a place that I can buy instead of paying 1500 a month for renting.

I will enter wherever I go with around 35k and no car, 30k with a car if I can bring it.

I WANT to move somewhere nice and warm, I was looking at the cayman islands but I cant afford the apartments, or the 300k condos. So I have to either find a cheap place there or find a similar place around the world. I would love the idea of being able to surf and snorkle, and ride jetskis, but since I havent left Illinois ever I know nothing about these things.

I would be entering the country with a G.E.D. I have no credited schooling since I dropped out of college, so I am not sure what to do for a job. I dont want to work at mcdonalds making min wage trying to pay for things I cant. I am a hard worker with no paperwork to prove it...

Any further insight would be great.

Go to the Philippines. Start in Puerto Galera. You can rent a house there for the equivalent of USD 150 per month, and food is cheap. Forget the car, you won't need one.

Take 5k out of the 35 and buy yourself some toys (like dive equip) and furniture for the house, and pay for your instructions to become a divemaster (this will take a few months and the fees alone might be 2k when all is said & done).

Put the other 30k in the bank - maybe 15k in USD, 15K in Peso time deposits, and draw money as you need it. That is probably enough to take you 2 - 3 years while you get established / find yourself.

After you are certified look for a place to work as divemaster, you can earn between USD600 - 1,000 / month (min wage here is about USD 150/month to put this in relation) but this is more than enough to live on down there, you can probably even save a few hundred bucks a month unless you end up becoming a complete drunk and/or get mixed up with the wrong bar girl.

If you get tired of Puerto Galera, there are literally dozens of other towns with similar opportunities here in the Philippines.

Sunshine 350 days a year here in the Philippines. The language is English (kind of). No college necessary. If you get tired of it, you can be back in Illinois for about USD 1,000 and you can always go back to school or something later.

Do it man, just do it! Good luck wherever you end up, but really try to get out of the US for a while. I left 15 years ago and have never even thought of going back, and I even stopped visitng about 3 years ago because the place gets on my nerves with the snow, the police, silly drinking laws, silly driving laws, ....

Sanmigsean is absolutely right, I also live in the Phils, and have done for 14 years. It's the safest, friendliest, most beautiful, easiest to live in country I've ever lived in and I've travelled to more than 70 and have lived in 7 third world countries. I don't have much money but I live on a private island and life is cheap. Every day I put on a pair of shorts, drink loads of cheap San Miguel beer and swim in crystal clear water and breathe air which has no pollutants for 150 miles away.
It'll cost you around 3-400 usd for the visa extensions for one year and that's all the government wants, so it's really easy. Internal and external flights are dirt cheap, so every year you just go to Malaysia for a couple of days for 50 bucks return on Air Asia, and then come back and start your visa again for another year.
Sanmigs costs are right on.
All of the other boring old farts who try to tell this kid to stay in a very very stupid country can take a hike, let him have fun, he's young and has plenty of time. His money will go a hell of a long way here and he'll grow up a lot, which is something 95% of americans will never achieve, since they know NOTHING about the outside world and different cultures, and will probably never even know what a passport looks like!!!!

I would recommend that you at least go to a community college and get a Associate's Degree on whatever field of work you would like e.g. Business Management. While in school, work at a min wage job and SAVE every penny. By the time you get your Associate's, you would have saved enough money to move out of the US. With an Associate's degree you can prove that you are smart and that you are hardworking. Oh, I also recommend learning a second language, might come in handy. I think a cheep place to live would be in a Latin American country. It's far but still close to the US ^_^ Good luck and work hard.

Stay home, stay in school and stop trying to run away because you have some problem with one or both of your parents.

Your 35k will be gone quickly unless you move to some third world hovel and the chance of you finding employment is essentially nil.

You've posted this question all over this website and its time someone took you by the scruff of the neck and told you to stop acting like a petulant angry little child.

Can you speak any language besides English? Have you ever been away from home on your own, let alone in foreign country? Do you have knowledge of any culture other than that of the typical spoiled, self indulgent American teenager?

They'd eat you alive and spit you out any place you'd go to that you could afford.

Stay home, get over it and grow up.

you dont say what part of the states your living in right now? i am a military dependent living outside the us... moving out of the states is SUPER expensive, but! i know Mexico has some great deals.... {a friend has bought a house - that comes with a pool and a guest house} and shes a govt employee...

why do you want to move out of the states?are you planning on becoming a citizen of whatever country you move to? or just a resident?

the fact that you only have a GED and no college to speak of, makes it much much harder for you to get a good paying job... also, dont forget about passport and visa fees...

maybe you should check out other places in the states first??
or join the military?? that would help with the wanderlust.... ;)

It's very difficult to relocate internationally with limited resources and no job. You may find it impossible to get permanenet residency and/or a visa that allows you to stay long term (beyond 6 months) and to work legally.

I read online awhile back that foreigners are not allowed to work in the Phils unless maybe they can prove they are not taking a job that a Phillippina can do. Just go to us embassy.com or maybe the manilla one and look into it. I am no expert but just throwing that out.
