Who here has had a pap test at around 6 months into their pregnancy? I have to have one at my next visit because I have had pre-cancerous cells in the past. I'm nervous about it. Please help ease my mind.

It is OK to have a pap during pregnancy at any point the baby will be fine, and I will be praying for you that there be no more pre cancerous cells.

If you have not had a pap smear since you got pregnant it is important that you get one. The doctor will use the smear to check for more than abnormal cells. You will also be checked for chlamydia and gonorrhea. It is important to get this done because IF you have one of these STDs it can be extremely harmful to your baby during delivery. I don't see that there would be any risk to you or the baby they just take a swab of the secretions near your cervix which would contain some cells. Also, once you hit about 36 or 37 weeks the doctor is going to want to check you for Group B Strep which will also involve a vaginal swab. If that test is routinely done that late in pregnancy I don't see how a pap smear at 7 months would be dangerous. Especially considering the possible harm to your baby if you did happen to have a condition that would be dangerous to his or her health. Not saying it is likely that you have an STD, just that it could be possible and I believe it is always better safe than sorry where the health of your child is concerned.

I'm 8 weeks pregnant right now...have had an abnormal pap test. My OB/GYN did a colposcopy a week ago, told me every three months throughout my pregnancy I will undergo a pap AND a colposcopy.....after I have the baby then possibly a biopsy. My Dr. told me the only thing that could harm the baby is the biopsy. That increases the risk of miscarriage by a lot. But the pap test isn't usually dangerous.

I don't understand what you're worried about either, but the pap won't hurt the baby. Usually they do a pap at your first visit but they take a group B strep swap (same as a pap just a different test) at 8 months. Don't worry about it.

I had on around that time because I had UTI in the past there is nothing to be nervous about its just a regular test to make sure u and the baby are fine. If you have had other over the past months to check your uterus(and you should have) you should have nothing to worry about.

I have... I guess I am wondering why you are concerned?
What do you think could happen?
If you can't give more details here- please discuss them with your MD prior to committing to the examination and testing.
