I'm already pretty familiar with The Smiths back catalogue and I'm already aware of the 'Hush Hush - Eye to Eye' song.
I'm more into indie music but certainly not opposed to other genres.
So does anyone know of any gems?

Actually I'm a big Belle and Sebastian fan already, they are a great band and it's a very good answer - though I would have to argue that If You're feeling Sinister is their best followed by Boy With The Arab Strap!

The first thing that pops into mind is Belle and Sebastian. Many of their songs are populated with shy/outsider types of characters. The first two albums are their best if you want a starting point.

i like "i'm a little pea" by the chili peppers. flea sing it, just him and his bass. only thing is it kinda short.

why would shy people write songs? wouldn't they want to stay in there basements and play piano to themselves?
