Omnivores are animals that eat both meat and vegetables. Most rodents are omnivores, but a surprising number of "carnivores" are actually omnivores. Foxes will eat everything from berries to bunnies, though meat is the favored food. Squirrels eat predominately nuts and berries, but will not turn away from bugs and bird's eggs if they are easy to catch or take.

It really varies with the animal. Most mammals, for instance, are omniverous to some degree (the exception being hoofed mammals). For example, mice will eat seeds, fruits, nuts, and vegetable matter, but will also happily crunch on crickets, bones, deer antlers, and carcasses as they find them. Foxes are more omniverous than most carnivores, and will eat birds, mice, rabbits, fruit, insects, seeds, gabage, and just about anything else they find. Bears' diet varies wildly through the seasons, and availability of food. they might catch fish exclusively during spawning season, but eat berries when they are in season.
Birds typically occupy a niche, with most songbirds eating a type of insect or seed, but many will adapt to changing food resources. An insect eater in the spring might eat seeds in the fall- it is very dependent on the species. Foragers such as crows, magpie, jays, gulls, etc. are true omnivores, and will eat carrion, fruits, seeds, garbage, etc. With birds, the biggest clue is looking at their beaks and body type, and then combining that information with where it lives. A small songbird with a heavy beak, living in a mountain conifer forest most likely eats pine seeds. A small migratory bird in the same habitat, with a lighter beak, is probably an insect eater, specializing in insects found in pine trees. Most seed eaters will not pass up the protein in the occasional insect or caterpillar, and most insect eaters can eat seeds if needed.

Humans go to the store to feed so I would assume that other omnivorous animals do the same.

They both hunt and gather. For example, catch salmon and pick berries.
