can some one fix this run on sentence please, i can't do it

On September 13,1810 Miguel Hidalgo and a great army started to take over many cities of Mexico to gain freedom. from Dolores, they moved on to Atotonilco, San Miguel el grande (now Allende), Chamucuero, celaya(whee Miguel Hidalgo received the rank of captain general) , Salmanca, Iraput and Silao, until reaching Guanajuato. On July 18 Miguel Hidalgo was executed. Th is my teachers not "run on break own into several sentences" i really dont know how to do that. can some one please correct the mistakes and do what my teacher said(which idont understand) all u have to do is copy and paste it and correct it Please Help

The main thing you need to work on when you break down long sentences is transitions, like first, next, last, then, etc. If you fit these in your paper, it will sound a lot smoother, especially when you list off all of those cities. Here is what I mean:
