Romance languages are considered to be Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese and Romanian. I think it's because they are the languages that are spoken the most if you were to break it down Nationally. Oh and they all are derived from Latin. I personally can speak Spanish, French and understand Italian and Portuguese IF they go slow. Nice question.
