I've been getting really dizzy ever since I became one and I sometimes I even pass out if I lay down..not fall asleep but pass out. Anybody whos a vegetarian/vegan tell me if you ever got these symtoms and what you did to solve them or anybody who knows anything about that kind of stuff.

Well what exactly have you been eating? From the sounds of it you need more food in your body...if you get dizzy try eating a banana. you might want to think about some vitamins or some sorta of food you can replace thatll give you some good protien too~ hope i helped

Whenever you make a big change in your diet you should always talk to your doctor first. I have been a vegetarian for 7 years and recently decided to try vegan-ism. I set up an appointment with my doctor for a physical. (Unfortunately my appointment was set for 3 weeks after I had cut out the eggs and cheese.) When I saw her, she had suggestions for iron and folic acid supplements initially. But when she got my test results back, she informed me that my iron, folic acid, and cholesterol (among other things) were in better shape than her own, and I wouldn't need any supplementing as long as I kept my diet relatively the same. However, I would never have known what changes happened to my body without consulting her. So I'll say it again, always talk to your doctor about any changes in your diet (or general health in your case) they have the ability to tell you things that you (and others) can only guess about. (Also if your doctor has an obvious dislike for vegetarians, politely ask if you can see another doctor, millions of people around the world are vegetarian without problems, don't let someones opinion get in the way of leading your choice of a healthy life style!)

ok, i know exactly what you are going through. I tried to eat less meat once and i did the same thing. If you want to be a vegetarian, you have to start slowly. I have a feeling you are in decent shape and your metabolism is very high. This means that your body needs more protien(meat) to sustain your energy because you are young and at an age where your body is growing and needs get all the nutrients it can get. Especially if you are male. So take it slow and simply slowly limit your consumption. I would suggest you start over again. Good luck and take it easy!

You need iron. When I became a vegetarian, my doctor told me to eat vitamins (with iron) everyday. You should eat a lot of nuts, legumes, green, leafy vegetables, bread, and fruits. These will give you all the stuff you need. Go out and buy vitamins. Make sure it has an iron supplement and folate/folic acid. You need folate for your reproductive system to be healthy.

You are probably anemic, and this can be changed if you have iron in your diet.

I have never passed out before, but I got close to it (before my doc told me too eat vitamins). So eat your vitamins! Everyday!

Yes. That sounds like anaemia (put simply lack of oxygen carriage around the blood) due to lack of iron.
Meat is by far the best way to get iron. Leafy greens esp spinach is one way for vegetarians, but you have to eat mountains to get the same thats in meat.
Go get a blood count, if you want to prove it.
If you hate needles, just go pick up some iron tabs or enormous quantities of spinach and see if it helps (will take a couple of weeks or more).

You need to increase your fat and protein intake. Tofu is good for both. Soy products are high in protein as well. Cook with olive or vegetable oils to get your fats (things like olive and vegetable oil are full of unsaturated fat, which is better for you than saturated fats). You may also look into vegetable protein, which is similar in texture to meat and, of course, is a good source of protein. Beans and nuts are also high in protein (I'm from New Orleans, and LOVE red beans and rice; if you've never had it, you don't know what you're missing). I don't know if you're going to eat fish, eggs, milk products, etc., but if you do, those are all good sources of fats and protein. Research foods that are protein-rich.

My roommate is a vegetarian, and she does all of these things. She still consumes milk products and eggs (they're not fertilized, so you're not killing anything).

See your doctor. Don't argue and don't delay.

Just because you're a vegetarian doesn't mean that that choice has anything to do with this problem. In fact, it could well have hidden it for a while. There could be any number of reasons for this, and when I start to think about them, the vast majority of them are not necessarily good news.

You are probably not eating a balanced diet. It takes a lot of work to be a vegetarian and still get all of the nutrients you need. Go to your local library or online and research recipes for vegetarians.

its called lack of protein.

your body needs an equal amount of nutrients to function properly. no offense, but ive never understood the whole vegan/vegetarian thing. we as humans are omnivors. we're designed to eat meats and vegetables.

seriously, if your just doing the whole vegetarian thing to fit in, its not worth it. i know that being a vegatarian is a trend for teens now days because of what the media is feeding them. DONT LISTEN TO THIS NONSENSE!! its stupid to follow trends.

It sounds like you are anemic. This has nothing to do with being vegetarian, tho. Make sure you are getting enough iron. This used to happen to me all the time at your age, but it went away, I'm 26 now.
