I'm a Mentor at my job, and I got it after the #1 guy in my department moved. That said, my boss said I could only keep it because I was good (and had been there for nearly a year)

That said, I'm not a boss. However I know what I'm doing and people usually listen to my ideas.

A mentor does not hold power over you - a boss does. The word mentor is often misused.

Good Luck!!!

A mentor is someone you admire and are interested in learning from. A boss is an employee of the same company who is "in charge" of you. One is voluntary and one is involuntary.
