Jesse was a high school sensation. He had the world record (high school) for the 100 yard dash at 9.4 seconds. This was Cleveland East Technical High School's most amazing thing that had ever happened there.

Real quick. Yes I know who he was. Jesse Owens was a superb 1936 Olympic athlete. He competed in track and field.
Hitler did not snub just Jesse Owens. He was required by the Olympic committee to greet all athlete or none at all (the first day he greeted just the German athletes. He chose none at all. He probably was avoiding contact with Jesse and other non-Aryan types but the bigger picture needs to be seen here.

In the year of 1936, Jesse entered the Olympics. Because they were held in Nazi Germany, they were known as the "Hitler Olympics." During the Olympics, Hitler had planned to show the world the Nazi code of the perfect race. Jesse did the exact opposite of that. He proved to them that Africans were strong and are not a lower race. By the end of the Olympics, even Hilter was cheering for him. All of the German boys and girls wanted his autograph.
He ended up winning all of his events. This included the 100 meter dash, the 200 meter dash and the broad jump. He was also the main runner in the 400 yard relay. He became the first American ever to win 4 gold olympic medals in a single day.

Jesse Owens is arguably one of the greatest Olympic athletes that there has ever been. just before WWII or maybe it was during? any way it was during the Olympics in Berlin in the 30's Jesse Owens won three gold medals against "the master race' in germany under Hilter. he did it in spite of death threats against him if he even competed. he stood up and competed and america rejoiced as he brought home the gold. look him up he is a great american and a great man. if his story doesnt inspire you nothing will. happy hunting.
