Okay there are two questions that I do not understand about vibrations and waves. Here they are:

4. Suppose that a pendulum has a period of 1.5 seconds. How long does it take to make a complete back-and-forth vibration? Is this 1.5-second period pendulum longer or shorter in length than a 1-second period pendulum?

8. Does the medium in which a wave travels move along the wave itself ? Defend your answer.

Please give a thorugh, yet simply understandable answer. Best one will be rewarded 10 points.

4: The period of a simple pendulum operating under small angle approximation is given by:

T = 2*pi*sqrt(L/g)

8: No, otherwise, when someone shouts at you from a distance, you'd feel a gust of wind. Moreover, consider that sound can travel through the air and then through solid objects. But solid objects cannot be moving atoms around to propagate sound.

4. Ok...the equation for the pendulum is T=2(pi)sqrt(l/g).
t would be the period or the seconds. since you are solving for length the equation would be l=(t^2g)/(4(pi)^2).
I'm getting .559 meters for the 1.5 second pendulum and .248 meters for the 1 second pendulum. So the first one, with a period of 1.5 seconds, is longer.

8. I'm confused on what it is asking for.

The Physics communicate board, as presently constituted, is a lot more desirable sensible than the Astronomy and area communicate board. A&S has a tendency to be notably delicate. more than a number of i. grade college homework, ii. hoaxes (2012 stuff), and iii. trolls searching for interest. even although homework help is stressful, a minimum of it really is severe. you may familiar self-clear out to discover questions that provide a touch challenge and a questioner who's appreciative. there has been talk among the aficionados of growing to be a severe Physics and Math communicate board. although the overall consensus replaced into that it might want to nevertheless be finished of homework questions and junk mail trolls, and Y!A does no longer be prepared on the idea because what Y!A needs is site visitors.

the period is the time in which it takes to complete one cycle or one complete swing.

if it takes 1.5 seconds to complete the swing...is that longer or shorter than a swing that has a period of 1 second?

as far as number 8 goes...im not really sure what they're asking
