things to do in Sarasota, FL or surrounding areas?

I'm going to be in Sarasota in a couple weeks visting for about 5 days and was wodering if anyone who lives there or has been there has any fun ideas or places to check out while i'm there!! i want to make the most of my time and have a blast!! so any tips and ideas are greatly appreciated!!

Hey Hey,
Im in the surrounding area, you can head to the beaches there, beautiful beachs. There is Tampa bay, if you are into Roller Coasters, head to Busch Gardens. Lots of rides, animals, shows and water rides as well.
If you are into fishing, head to Skyway Bridge. If not, head there anyway, its a really cool bridge, it hink the longest Span bridge in the southeast, or tallest, something like that.
Theres Botanical Gardens as well, and Lowery Park Zoo.
If you are into Clubs, head to Tampa, to Ybor City. Its one long strip of bars and clubs, restaurants, movie theatre, and other things to do. If you really want to take a trip, head to Orlando or even Ft. Myers which isnt too far south from Sarasota.
Plus Sarasota has a cute lil place called Armands Circle, three are boutiques, restaurants, ice cream shoppe (I think its still there). Its ritzy spot Armand circle, and the bridge getting there has a beautiful view of the downtown area. Oooh, there is the Ringling Museum, and you can see the house of Ringling too! If you're a student, bring your ID with you, gets you in for free! That museum is really cool, theres a replica of statue of David out there too in the Garden. You can also head to St. Pete Beach or Indian Rocks beach, plus St. Pete has a Dali Museum there, as well as a pier with restaurants and bars, and theres a place where there is a movie theatre, bars, clubs, stores, kind of like Ybor, but less bars/clubs and a more older crowd. If you want a younger crowd, head to Ybor City then.

I'm from Ft. Myers, which is kind of far south from Sarasota but also on the Gulf side. When I go home to visit now the things I really enjoy doing are water-related. If you're staying with friends see if they have a boat or know someone who does and will take you out. Otherwise you can charter one (I'm not sure how much that would be) and spend the day either fishing, doing watersports, or just tanning on the boat :) If this isn't an option than just head to the beach if it is nice weather. You will also be able to do some shopping while you're there... but if you're from a big city then they will have everything that you normally have since FL isn't exactly the forefront of fashion... but it will still be fun!
