Tradition or lack there of..if your 18 yrs old you go to colledge, work hard,... if your talented enough go to the NBA.Work hard to earn your respect ,work even harder to earn your playing time.Kobe was one of the first highschool players to come straight to the NBA.He was getting more attention then the veteran's and even then he was one of the best players in the league. He had the ********* of Bird, the swagger of Jordan and the showtime of Magic. All that at the age of 18...... he was ready to show the world but the world wasn't ready. That young with that much swagger, showtime whatever..you have to earn that, you just can't imitate it.Some people hate him for it,some people love him for it..maybe when it's all said and done, they will hate the next kid with the ********* of Kobe, the swagger of Kobe, and the showtime of Kobe.

You will always have folks who hate for no good reason.
The same people in this thread/question downplaying his 81 points would have been yapping how he didn't take enough shots when they lost games in the finals.
Didn't impress the writers??? ROFLMAO - did you even read the articles on that? Wait... were you able to read at that time? Tell me then, why is the USA team built AROUND Kobe???
Are you also going to downplay Wilt's 100 because the NY Knicks weren't a great team at that time? For his 81pts, Kobe hit around 60%. That's awesome regardless of who you are, or who you are playing.
Folks don't like him, and to be honest he hasn't done a lot to help that (tho' he appears to be trying hard recently). Comments written by the peurile, juvenile, poorly spelt, bad grammar commentary by some of the kiddies in this thread don't change any of this.
When push comes to shove, and the games on the line, Kobe Bryant is a guy any GM/Coach would be happy to have the ball.

You know what? I am a huge Kobe Bryant fan too! I hate when people ask the question, who is the best player in the NBA? Because there is no question. I don't care how selfish people say he is. If you score 81 points in a game, you are unbelievable at what you do. So all you haters, stop hating on the best!

HE IS NOT, AND I REPEAT NOT, THE BEST PLAYER IN THE NBA TODAY.
Scoring 81 points in a TEAM sport is Selfish and does not make him the best player. From the day he stepped on the court he's always been a selfish player and as a basketball fan I cannot call that best. I give it up to players that play as a team not the one man action "hero". And on his off days Kobe really sucks.

Scoring 81 against a very weak Raptors team only impressed Laker fans. It did not impress the writers and and mvp voters.
Kobe is a good athlete with amazing potential but his attitude, his lack of leadership, and the incident with the young lady at the hotel just doesn't sit well with a lot of fans and people in general.
Kobe has created his own bad persona and has not taken the right steps in improving it. He just doesn't care and it shows.

they hate him b/c of the attitude. he's been a cocky show-off ballhog since he came into the league. his problems w/ shaq didnt help anything either. then the whole rape case and he comes back w/ tats galore like he's a thug or something. but in my opinion its b/c people believe that he aspired to be jordan. his game, his mannerisms during interviews i dont people appreciated that combined with everything else.
kinda ironic b/c when dr.j was the ambassador of the league, jordan came in, had a similar high flying style, real mellow during interviews and took the torch to the next level. kobe comes in has the same high flying style and mannerisms as mj, people hate him. he is a tremendous talent though.

Many of us are growing weary of hearing people glorify him to the point where they state he's currently the greatest player, because it's entirely untrue. He's not "the best player in the NBA." He's among the best in it. He's good, but his skill isn't somehow superior to everyone else's.
His terrible-seeming attitude doesn't help either.

they hate his talent, they can't stop him, nd hate his attitude.
one more thing, basketball is a team sport,u can't just score 81 by urself, u r fooled if u think kobe scored 81 by himself, it comes from team work. Plus he works harder than everybody else,he deserves it.
