The liquids will mix fine in a bucket, but not a good idea to feed the mixture to a gasoline engine. Diesel is meant to iginite in the combustion chamber under pressure, not by a spark so you will have problems with pinging an run on..and the onboard computer will not be able to vary the engine's timing to keep up with the effects. It is difficult to put diesel in an unleaded vehicle as the fueling nozzle will not fit into the fueling neck

if you put diesel in a gasoline engine, it will stop running, it will not mess up the engine, but you will have to completly drain the gas tank, drain all fuel lines and replace the filter, then replace with gasoline
now, if you put gasoline in a diesel engine, it could ruin the engine, that because the gasaline has a higher flash point than diesel, and will ignite in the combustion chamber before it supose to and ruin your pistons

Yes - putting diesel fuel in your car and unleaded gas isn't good. Usually the nozzles for the diesel are made bigger so that you don't accidentally stick the diesel pump in your car.
