It will be hard to actually look and find him. Check the obvious places such as under the sofa, behind bookshelves, under the stove, etc. You will be surprised all the locations he could be hiding once you start looking at the room/house from the hamsters view. Look around the perimeters of the room as he's more likely to hug the wall as he runs. If you haven't found him during the evening, he will probably find a spot to sleep during the day. Both because he is exhausted from his excursion and because hamsters are nocturnal (sleep during the day, active at night).

If you were unable to recover him last night, you will need to try to lure him to you. Here is a link that describes a few ways to catch an escapee:

I personally use a Live Chipmunk trap to catch my escaped hamsters though I doubt you want to wait for that to be shipped to you. I have found the Live Rat traps to be too small.

Last time I lost a hamster I found him in the pudding, but then I realized it wasn't my hamster it was a rat, and it bit me and i had to get rabies shots. But then later I found it back in it's cage and realized I hadn't lost it at all.

What ever you do, don't replace it. He'll know. Face the music and let him pick out a new one. It's for the best.
