I adapt accents very easily. I think it depends on the person. I was in London for one week and was talking with an accent for a few months...I still switch to it every now and then, haha. I'd say if you're living there...it'd probably be a few months to a year, because you'd be around the accent constantly. As for the kids, that also depends. I have a friend who's dad is Austrian and mother is British...and she has a country accent lol. It's pretty much just based on their surroundings (friends, people on the street, etc)

Some people pick up accents faster than others.

My Mum lived in the USA for 5 years and come back with a Southern accent, but my brother lived there for the same amount of time and it didn't make a difference.

I've lived here in London for about 5 years on and off and haven't got the accent thank goodness! Although I actively try not too! Your kids accent will come from many factors such as its parents, family and friends.

I was born and lived there until I was 13, (i live in america now) I'm nearly 15 now and mine is as strong as ever. You'll probably fake it for a long time when you get there, if you get there. You can't just move there. Takes a long time to apply and get accepted for residency.
