whoever told u that was a moron. a computer only "fries" if u mistakenly plug it into the wrong voltage (but if u live in the US thats not really possible cause we only hav 1 voltage) OR if u drastically overclocked the cpu, for example. however a magnet WILL cause damage to the comp (if its strong enough that is). usually it will wipe the hard drive of most, if not all the data on it. or it might cause interference in some of the circuitry if the machine is running. bottom line: keep any and all magnets away from your computer. fridge magnets might not be that strong but keep them away as well, just to be safe.

Yes, magnets are bad news around computer chips - and they do weird things to monitors as well. However, the little bit of magnetism that is in a fridge magnet is probably not enough to mess your system up - but still not a good idea.

Very True!
However...
The refrigerator magnet is not strong enough to go beyound the tower case.
ONLY stronger magnet magnetic force can go beyound the metal tower case and reach the motherboard and other magnetic senitive electronic.
Don't worry about it!
The only way you can get a stronger magnet if you were browsing a science store or purchase it from a Extreme Geek or similar magazine.

If they are just those thin fridge magnets, they wont really have any effect on the computer at all unless they were actually on the computer hardware inside the case. However that doesnt mean you should leave them on there. So to answer your question, no, your computer is not fried.

Don't worry, it won't "fry" it. The only problem would come if he put magnets directly on your hard drive(s) because they use magnetic memory platters to record your OS, applications, files, etc. If he just put them on the outside case its unlikely they were close enough to the hard drive(s) to do any damage.

Hi,
It all depends on how large the magnets are and how close they are to your computer's hard drive. Refrigerator magnets are typically very small and are not very strong. However, I would avoid doing it anyhow to be on the safe side.

If they are small fridge magnets then your fine, but larger magnets close to your machines hard drive can erase your hard drive, but your machine won't "fry".

Yes. It will either fry a part or wipe data off the hard drive.

It won't fry your computer, but if they get close enough to the hard-drive,they can damage or erase the data on it. I doubt if theyre that strong though...

It is not recommended, it depends on the strength of the magnets, and fridge magnets are rubbish!
KEEP THEM AWAY FROM YOUR MONITOR, if you have a CRT type!
