Scalping was around when I was a teen in the 70's but not to the extent of the prices that we pay now. Now that we have the Internet, tickets sell out even faster. Another thing is that you can signup for band clubs, and you pay a fee for the year to get first shot at tickets. Yet another way that we are getting screwed. The first time I saw The Who (way back when) I paid $6 for my ticket. I saw The Who again in 2006 and I paid $285 for my ticket and that wasn't even from a scalper. To date, the highest I paid for a ticket was $750 to see Roger Waters in 2006 for the Dark Side of The Moon Tour. I was in the 3rd row and it was worth every damn penny and I would pay it again.

well, maybe you should try the local scene, for my band, we pack the house for like $5 per ticket, and my community is supporting local music.
but for cheap tickets, try e-bay or tickemaster, or try registering for pre-sales
