I think it should be the thought, not the gift that counts. However my step grandmother [now deceased] took a wellmade silk rose bouquet I made her & threw it in the trash while telling me I should've bought her something instead! So what do u think? Store, homemade?

Personally, I wouldn't buy a handmade collar because the risk is too high if it were to break or pop open on a walk. A commercially made collar that has been embellished is something I would consider. Dog treats, yes. Not big on clothes, no matter who makes them. Containers for dog treats, yes. Picture frames for dog pictures, yes. Dog beds or dog bed covers, yes. (I'd think there'd be a huge market for this, because it always seems that the best- made beds have the ugliest covers imaginable! If you could do custom covers to harmonize with people's decor, I think that would go over very well!) Many people will buy feeding bowls that are handmade, but I prefer stainless steel. Placemat for the feeding bowls to keep them from slipping around the floor, yes. Feeding stand, maybe. I'm not into the type of home decoration that talks about your love of your breed or your dog, but many people are. Same with people clothing that is dog-lover related. Not my cup of tea, but very popular. ETA: You may want to go into independent pet supply stores and ask them what sells well and what customers ask for but aren't able to find. Probably get some good ideas that way. If you can fill a need that they have, you may even get a contract with the store to sell through them!

HOMEMADE

Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:

Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!

The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.

Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.

If you'd rather not use the computer so much, try graph paper to sketch out the puzzle and use real pictures or pictures from magazines.

wow, i thought most people liked homemade. but it does depend on the person. if they're "its the thought that counts, oh my gosh look at how much time you must have spent" type, then make, but if they're the practical "can i return it for cash? what good does this do me?" type, then buy. or bake stuff. everyone likes the homemade batch of fudge.

homemade seems much more personal and that you put alot of thought into the gift

I agree. I'd much prefer something that had alot of thought in it, than a store brought card.

HOME MADE.
