walking will help but each woman and baby are different I can not tell you to walk for 1 hr and you will go in to labor that just is not true. your baby and your body will know when it is time. Also never try to break your water yourself this can lead to surious infection for you and the baby. I have heard that walking, squatting, sweeping, mopping, and sex are good ways to speed things along, but you just never know until you try and it works.

Latest studies show that walking does not help bring on labor. Once you are in active labor walking helps to insure that you are upright which helps gravity to do some of the work your body would have to do and moving around helps with basic pain management. But walking before contractions has been shown that it doesn't help the body to actually kick start labor. You can try to induce naturally with other methods but sex, spicy foods, bumpy car rides and even stripping the membranes is only thought to be effective when a woman is actually already close to labor. If there is a certifible reason that you want to have the baby as soon as possible then discuss it with your doctor. If it is an issue that effects your health or that of your baby your doctor might be willing to induce you early. I have lower back pain and at the end of my pregnancies I actually have a major lose of movement. So I am often induced because I literally can not move on my own. However, if you are just tired of being pregnant your doc will not give you much help. Good Luck.

Walking itself will not bring on labor; it MAY help bring the head down right before and during labor, but you can't start labor just by walking. The women whose labor begins while walking is just coincidental.

That varies from person to person. Just walk for a little while each day for as long as you can w/o tiring yourself out. Walking can bring on labor as well as help the baby drop.

During the lasts hour of my last pregnancy I walked almost all day, that helped me to calm the pain, and when I decide to go to the hospital 8 pm. I had 4 of dilatation, my baby born 2am, so was the faster labor that I have had. ( I have 3 daughters)

I went into the hospital @ 8pm and was dilated to 2 and I walked from about 8:30 till about 4am (with breaks of course) and it never brought on labor, they finally gave me
pitosin (sp?) and the Dr. had to break my water.

They're right...walking wont do it, although it is good for you and cant hurt, you wont go into labor until your body is ready. I was just wondering, how does one break their "bag of waters"? Thats just asking for serious problems there...dont do it!

Unfortunately, none. The baby will come when he/she is ready. I walked, and walked and walked in my last few weeks of pregnancy. They say that the motion of your hips moving will help the uterus contract, but it is all a myth. Sorry.

That would depend on how close you are. Drink water while walking as it also helps.
