Okay there is this chick i work with

I'm in my late 20's and she is like 47 or 49 something like that.

She like takes This job super serious and acts like nobody can do it like she can which is a laugh.

I've tried to be nice to her but she doesn't seem to get it. Words like Hi, How are you, Don't seem to comprehend well with her and when i try to have a conversation with her she either gives a one word answer or"well that's a dumb question" or something of that nature, She obviusely doesn't care about being nice, there are people there that like her including the boss. There are also people that don't like her as well.
i don't have to communicate with her but i just try to with everybody and just about everybody seems to be cool.

Do you think i ought to just ignore her and not say anything to her, or do you think i ought to continue trying.

Don't cast your pearls before swine. In other words, if your greetings are unappreciated then stop wasting them on her and find someone who does.

Depending on how long she's been on the job in her position and seniority, she might not take kindly to the 'new kid on the block.' Some feel threatened by fresh young eager faces, and maybe she's ...underneath the sandpaper exterior... she feels the pressure to 'out-do' and 'out-think' you. You are being extra nice to her, but if she can't accept that.... ignore her. Do you best work, and see how it all plays out come evaluation time. You could continue trying, but don't go so far as to create unnecessary friction, stress and tension where none is needed. You are the friendly type.. .be friendly. If she can't deal with it.. its her problem.

I think that perhaps you are best to just speak to her when the job warrants it. Oil and water do not mix well and obviously you two are not of the same mold. She may feel somewhat like she is an older person in a younger persons area and feel threatened by your mere existence.. or she may think you are a simpering fool.. never know.. best to, as I say, keep your distance until she approaches you or you have need to ask her for instruction in something.

Respect for both of you is important. (Golden rule type thing. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you...)

Good luck!
;-)

Just be cordial with her and nice enough, but don't go out of your way. You and her just don't mix... Maybe she doesn't like younger people at work, or maybe she is just not a cool person by nature. Either way, why put yourself through it? Go about your day as if she isn't there. She probably won't mind and if she does, who cares?

don't ignore her. but observe her. she's one of those people that hates everyone upon contact and then when she see's that you can be trusted, that's when she'll probably be able to conversate with. it's not your fault that she's negative or probably had a bad past. maybe she's a lifer at the job and just jealous that you have the opportunity to live freely and not be stuck at the job you're at. it's not you it's her......

Be polite but don't go out of your way trying to be friendly.
There could be a lot of reasons she acts like she does so don't take it personal.

Well a good morning/afternoon never hurt anyone but I would leave it at that and give her plenty of space. Only talk to her when ya need to.

Just ignore her and you'll have plenty of opportunities to laugh at her later if she is like you explained. Also dont feel like you have to try to talk to everyone, some people just don't like you for the hell of it.

The "chick" you work with makes you laugh because she takes her job seriously. Somehow I don't think the problem is completely with her.
